Parents Accused of Abandoning Baby on Median Strip on Christmas

A 1-month-old infant was found abandoned in a median in Denver, Colorado, on Christmas morning, police said.

The infant, a boy, was found in a car seat on a chilly morning wearing only a diaper, Fox31 reported. According to the Adams County Sheriff's Office, a bystander called 911 around 9:20 a.m. after seeing the baby in the median near 7490 Pecos Avenue and stopping to help. This area is located near a busy road.

“Investigators searched for camera footage and people who may have been in the area when the child was left. According to reports, authorities believe the baby is mixed race or Hispanic, but photos of the baby are not available. He said it was not provided.

The sheriff's office ultimately arrested the infant's biological parents, Jarvis Sims, 42, and Christina Thurman, 33.

The sheriff's office initially said it was working to reunite the infant with its family and catch those who abandoned it. The report said police were able to contact the family by 4:30 p.m. as they continued to investigate.

By 8:30 p.m., the sheriff's office had arrested Sims and Thurman. The two are charged with felony child abuse, the report said.
