Boxer Paul Bamba died this week, just days after winning the WBA cruiserweight title, manager Ne-Yo announced Friday.
He was 35 years old.
The cause of death has not been disclosed.
The boxer won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight title on Dec. 21 by forcing former super middleweight title contender Rogelio Medina Luna to retire on a chair after six rounds.
Bamba recently signed with Ne-Yo's management company, making him one of the first to partner with the Grammy Award-winning singer.
Ne-Yo released a joint statement with Bamba's family following his death.
“It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba. His light and love touched countless lives.” statement read.
“He was a fierce but confident competitor with a relentless ambition to achieve greatness. But most of all, he was a wonderful person who inspired many with his extraordinary drive and determination. It was.
“We are heartbroken by his passing and ask for your privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we grieve together.”
Bamba, ranked 12th in the WBA rankings, notably appeared in 14 professional fights during the 2024 calendar year.
He had a stellar professional career with a 19-3 record over just under four years.
After his latest win, Bamba called out to Jake Paul to “come get it.”
Paul expressed his condolences on Friday, writing to X: “Rest in peace Paul Bamba.”
