Professional Boxer Paul Bamba Dies At 35, Days After Beating Mike Tyson’s 38-Year-Old Record

Professional boxer Paul Bamba died suddenly at the age of 35, just days after winning the WBA Gold Cruiserweight Championship.

On Friday, R&B singer-songwriter Ne-Yo released a joint statement with Bamba's family announcing his death.

A statement posted on Instagram read: “It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba. His light and love will be felt by countless people. It had an impact.” “He was a fierce but confident competitor with a relentless ambition to achieve greatness. But most of all, he was a wonderful person who inspired many with his extraordinary drive and determination. We are saddened by his passing and ask for your privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we grieve together.”

The cause of death has not been disclosed.

Bamba won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight Championship and went 14-0 (all by knockout) in one year, breaking Mike Tyson's record just six days before his death.

“I started this year with a goal and I did just that,” Bamba said in an Instagram post after the match. It wasn't easy. There were many obstacles, but regardless of extenuating circumstances, we adapted, overcame them, and continued on the path we set. 14 races. “I won the WBA Gold Cruiserweight World Title with 14 knockouts,” he continued. “I'm lucky that my family, my team and our supporters have all gone this far. Bamba is 19-3 with 18 knockouts, 14 of which came in 2024, according to reports.
