President-elect Trump said former President Carter, who died Sunday, “did everything in his power to improve the lives of all Americans.”

In a subsequent Truth Social post, Trump said that while he “strongly disagrees” with Carter “philosophically and politically,” he said he “truly loves and respects our country and everything it stands for.” He also said that he was aware that he had done so.

In his second post about Carter, Trump said: “He worked hard to make America a better place. I have the utmost respect for him for that. He's a really good person. Carter died Sunday in Plains, Georgia, according to the Carter Center. He turned 100 in October, making him the longest-living president in U.S. history.
