Alaska woman convicted of murdering her court-appointed supervisor, police say

An Alaska woman has been found guilty of murdering her court-appointed boss, police said.

Keith Hass, 57, was found dead at a rest stop in Hope, Alaska, on September 29, 2020. Faculty of Law said in a release.

On Dec. 23, a jury found 39-year-old Sara Dayan guilty of first- and second-degree murder and several other charges.

Authorities said Hass was found at a rest area on Turnagain Pass and a police investigation was launched. Police said the man was shot four times with a .45-caliber handgun and hit by a car.

Further investigation revealed that Hass had been appointed by a judge as Dayan's third-party guardian, which was a condition of his bail.

Authorities said Huss was the last person to pick up Dayan from jail and drive her to Anchorage to work at a Huss food truck.

A search was launched for Dayan and he was arrested on October 1, 2020.

Authorities said Dayan acquired a .45-caliber handgun after his release.

Police also observed damage to Dayan's car “consistent with what was used to hit Hass,” police said.

Police said, “An examination of Mr. Hass's bank account revealed that Dayan used his bank account to purchase goods for himself, and after his death, transferred hundreds of dollars from his bank account to her bank account.'' It turned out that he had been sending money to.”

Police also linked Dayan to a series of vehicle thefts and cabin robberies in Seward.

Tyler Jones of the Special Prosecutor's Office said he hopes the guilty verdict brings closure to the Hass family.

“We are grateful that the jury found Sara Dayan responsible for her crimes, and we hope that Keith's loved ones can find some closure in light of this verdict,” Jones said. spoke.

Dayan is being held without bail pending sentencing, which could result in a sentence of 15 to 99 years in prison.
