Republicans need “guarantees” that House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) won't sell them into the swamp, Victoria says after President-elect Donald Trump formally endorses the party.・Congressman Spartz (Republican, Indiana) said on Monday.
“I understand why President Trump supports Speaker Johnson as much as Speaker Ryan, which is definitely important. But we still need to get assurances that @SpeakerJohnson won't sell us into the swamp. ” she said while sharing a 2016 article about President Trump’s endorsement of former Speaker Paul Ryan in the name of unity.
“President Trump can only save America if we have speakers with courage, vision, and a plan who will educate the American people about how they can help realize President Trump’s policy of draining the quagmire.” “Only if the government makes a commitment to
His remarks came after President Trump endorsed Johnson on Monday morning after a stalemate over a spending deal he negotiated on behalf of Republicans, although no Democratic member of Congress actually opposed it. None of them were present, leading some of his colleagues to turn against him. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) became the first Republican to publicly announce that he would not support Johnson in the Jan. 3 speaker election.
“I'm voting for anyone other than Mike Johnson,” Massey reiterated.
“The argument, “Hurry up and elect him so we can certify the J6 election,'' is unconvincing. With a weak legislative branch benefiting from the quagmire, voters will give President Trump and Congress the right to vote in November. “We will not be able to accomplish our mission,” he added.
In his endorsement, which included a lengthy introduction, President Trump touted the Republican victory in November and declared the party to be the party of “common sense.”
“We must not waste this great opportunity we have been given. The American people need immediate relief from all the destructive policies of the previous administration. Speaker Mike Johnson is a good man. He's a hard-working, religious man,” Trump said.
“He will do the right thing and we will continue to win. Mike has my full and complete support. MAGA!!!” he added.
While it remains unclear how many Republicans are siding with Massey in opposition to Friday's speaker, Spartz also said the speaker-elect will provide “courageous leadership to get our country back on track before this 'Titanic.' “We must show that we have the right to vote,” he said in a statement regarding the upcoming vote. It's going to hit an iceberg any minute now. ”
She went on to emphasize the importance of implementing President Trump's policies.
Severe financial crises often lead to social unrest and increased government control. If we are serious about governance, the next Speaker should make a public commitment and create temporary structures in the House for at least the following purposes: 1) Approval. 2) Adjustment offset policy, and 3) Expenditure audit. We also need to engage competent, unbiased, “non-swamp” experts to help us at least gradually emerge from this severe financial mess. The current structure, with its perverse incentives, hasn't worked for decades, and it won't suddenly start working. We must have a vision and a concrete plan to make President Trump's policies a reality for the American people, but despite countless discussions and promises, we are not seeing that from our current chairman. I couldn't come.
“The fate of our nation is at stake, and the Article I branch of Congress, which has the highest authority to make laws and manage our nation's finances, must fulfill its constitutional obligation not to sell out our republic at the expense of our children. “We need to start fulfilling our goals,” she added.
All of this comes as Mr Johnson's popularity has declined over the past few months as he faces criticism over his stance on Ukraine and moves he made with Democrats to avert a government shutdown.
