Bill Belichick says his Instagram has ‘been busy’ with UNC recruiting

Bill Belichick must be happy to have joined Instagram in September.

After taking over the Tar Heels program earlier this month, the 72-year-old new UNC football coach explained that he is “joining the 21st century” and is using Instagram to recruit players.

“Yeah, we're definitely recruiting. It seems like every day when a team's season ends with a bowl game and then the playoffs, more people come into the portal… contacting us about wanting to come to Carolina. There are a lot of people.” Belichick said Monday during his weekly appearance on ESPN's “The Pat McAfee Show.”

“I've been busy on my Instagram account. I scrolled through it and I never thought I'd say that, but here I am joining the 21st century and I'm glad I did.”

Immediately after the interview, Belichick posted a Christmas list of potential recruits and transfers on Instagram.

He first made a simple request for the gift he wanted.

“These are great players who will help us build a winning football program at UNC,” Belichick wrote, asking fans and alumni for their support.

Belichick, who signed a five-year contract with UNC, added on Monday that he will visit with recruits in Chapel Hill starting next week.

“We have big weekends coming up, like the weekend of the 4th and the weekend of the 11th. A lot of people are going to come out and hang out,” Belichick said. “It was fun, it was good, it was really fun.The school was great and the principal, staff and administration really supported us.

“A lot of players want to come to Carolina, so that's good. If you find something good, send it to us.”

After his inaugural press conference in Chapel Hill on Dec. 12, things seemed to be off to a good start for Belichick.

His 24-year-old girlfriend, former college cheerleader Jordon Hudson, was seated in the front row next to Millie Lombardi, the wife of UNC's new GM Michael Lombardi.

Two days later, the legendary NFL coach received a warm welcome as he addressed the crowd during halftime of the UNC vs. La Salle basketball game at the Dean E. Smith Center in Greensboro. Ta.

Belichick's move to UNC will be his first coaching job since parting ways with the Patriots in January after 24 seasons and six Super Bowl championships.

The eight-time Super Bowl champion has never coached at the college level.

Belichick's father, Steve Belichick, was an assistant coach at Chapel Hill in the 1950s.
