‘Desperate Housewives’ creator admits he’s envious of ‘Real Housewives franchise’

Wisteria Lane is an envy.

“Desperate Housewives'' creator Marc Cherry says he's jealous of the “Real Housewives'' reality TV series that started after the prime-time soap became a hit.

“I'm jealous of the fact that they kept that franchise going,” Cherry said. people he said in a new interview published Wednesday.

“I'm really jealous of the good people who make that show, because it's a train that keeps on making noise. So good for them.”

But Cherry doesn't begrudge the series' success.

“To be fair, they didn't make up my name,” he said. “They just used that word. Our show came out and they took advantage of it. And you know what? That's the capitalist system.”

“Desperate Housewives” aired on ABC from 2004 to 2012. In 2006, Bravo launched “Real Housewives of Orange County,” the first of what would become many “Real Housewives” series, set in Orange County, California.

Over the years, many people, including actor Tommy Tune, have confused the two shows when talking to Cherry.

“Tommy was confused and said, 'Oh, so you're going to produce all the different cities?' And I looked at him and I had no idea what he was saying. “I did,” Cherry recalled. “And I realized, 'Oh, you think I made a Real Housewives series?'”

According to Cherry, the “Real Housewives” series has become more famous than the shows that inspired it, at least in part, because it “still keeps coming out,” and new shows are constantly being churned out. It is said that this is because it has been done.

It took the writers 16 months to create the pilot for “Desperate Housewives.” Once the show started, it took about eight days to complete a new episode.

“It's like taking a few swimming lessons and then being thrown into the biggest pool ever,” he explained.

Cherry said she has no regrets about the show's ending. Although he could have continued with the show, he said in 2012 that he felt it was time to “quit” the show.

Cherry isn't sure whether rebooting the series is a good idea.

“What's important to me artistically is whether there's still something to say,” he told People. “You know, they always want to move on to something new, something fresh. But if you're going to do a reboot, there has to be a good artistic reason.”

he continued. “If I ever dip my toe in that water again, I want to make sure it's for a really good reason.”
