Former New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu said Wednesday on CNN's “The Read” that the Bourbon Street terrorist attack that killed 15 people and injured at least 30 on New Year's Day was “not just another attack on New Orleans. It was an attack on America itself.” ”
Mr Landrieu said: “Today is a heavy day for all of us and of course everyone's thoughts and prayers are with the incredible victims. We rushed to the scene of the fire and rescued this man. Thank you to the law enforcement officers for that, because it could have been so much worse.”
He continued: “This is based on information that we know, and there's a lot of speculation, but we believe that this person is actually an American citizen who appears to be from Texas, and incredibly… We know that he had some kind of infection.” A type of military record. And apparently he stayed here for several weeks. In other words, isn't this the same as the assassination attempt that happened in New York? Obviously this guy has been here for a few weeks thinking about how to get this done. And he was going to kill a lot of people, and of course he succeeded in doing it last night in front of law enforcement officers. , shot, shot. Therefore, everyone should be on guard. The Superdome will be safe tomorrow night. We do these things all the time. You now understand because we have reported that a nationwide threat exists. ”
Landrieu continued, “So this was a terrorist attack on an American city. It wasn't just an attack on New Orleans. It was an attack on America itself. And we will not give in to terrorists. so we all have to join this fight We won't let them stop us from having fun, but we have to make our city safe, and we have to continue to do this for the long term. Because there's a big event coming up. We've covered the Super Bowl over and over again.”
