Jamal Adams is looking for a new soccer home.
The Lions removed the controversial former Jets safety from their practice squad on Wednesday, a month after he joined the organization.
He was with the Titans at the beginning of the season, but he was waived from there as well, and now the three-time Pro Bowler is looking to get a flyer from any team that could sign him for next season. I'm looking for it again.
Adams appeared in two games as a practice squad member and only played a small amount of minutes during his time with the Lions, but played defense in just 20 games for Detroit.
The news comes days after an interview was published in which Adam expressed his excitement for the opportunity he has with the Lions in Detroit.
“Obviously, this is a great opportunity.” Adams told football writer Tyler Dunn.. “And then after I asked for my release from Tennessee, I went home and decompressed. I just got away, I cleared my mind and I was wondering if I was in this industry for the right reasons and what my purpose was. I wanted to make sure I was there to pursue and continue my career. And obviously, I was sitting at home for a few weeks and training all the time.”
Furthermore, he added: “And then obviously (Detroit) came calling and it was a no-brainer for me. I'm like, 'What an opportunity.' Here’s your chance to chase the ring.’ That’s what it is, dude. ”
Adams' career has never been the same since he requested a trade from the Jets, who drafted him No. 6 overall in 2017, and his request was granted in 2020.
His falling out with the organization made him a polarizing figure in recent franchise history, and since the trade, Adams' career has been plagued by inconsistent play and injuries.
Adams spent four years with the Seahawks, and appeared to be heading for a major downturn in 2022 when a torn quadriceps tendon ended his season in Week 1.
He was released in the 2024 offseason and briefly stayed in Tennessee.
Adams recently expressed regret over the Jets' trade request.
“[Jets] “My fans, I didn't know I hurt them so much,” he said. “I didn't know I had this much influence. And obviously as I got older, I started to realize, 'Brother, you had it all.' I got everything except victory. Everything else, you had everything. Whatever the player wants. 'But it didn't work for me. I asked for a trade-in. And now that I look back, I would say to myself, “Don't make emotional decisions.” “
