Dennis Austin has been a pioneer in the fitness industry for 40 years, so he knows a thing or two about how to make memorable New Year's resolutions.
Austin told Fox News Digital that people often take on too much or make resolutions too difficult, but the key is to start small.
“Take it easy. If you have a gym membership, it might take a car to get there. That's very difficult for you. These are obstacles in your way. So take it easy. That's what it is.''The reason I like walking is because I think it's useful for everyone.

“I wouldn’t do it if I didn’t,” Austin said.

The 67-year-old advised people to create “small habits” that they know they can follow, and stressed the importance of starting each day on the right foot.
“Please make it convenient for me.”
“Make it a habit, because a morning routine always starts with something like a morning routine. And I believe in a great morning routine. That's how you start your day. You'll feel better. So think about how easy it can be. Start with just a 20-minute walk to make your day better.

“I always start my day with a good walk. Feel the sunshine? No matter the weather, vitamin D is good. Just go outside and walk for 20 minutes. I feel so much better. “My energy level explodes while I'm walking.'' It makes me feel good about myself that day, too,'' Austin told FOX News Digital.

Dennis has mastered his own morning routine that incorporates “old-fashioned” traditions.

“I wake up in the morning and have a cup of coffee. I still read the newspaper. It's my old way of life. Then I start my 30-minute routine,” she said.
Austin said he only works out for 30 minutes a day to make sure he gets it done.
“That way, I was more prepared to eat healthier that day because I just went all out for 30 minutes,” she said.

Austin explained that the key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle is incorporating small steps throughout your day that set you up for success.
“The important thing for me is that I always tell people: Start small. Just do it for 10 or 20 minutes. Drink lots of water. Try to eat whole foods from now on. New Year's Resolutions “If you can start eating really healthy, eliminate some of the processed foods as much as possible and make your own food,'' she said.

Austin suggested ditching “bad” seed oils like canola oil and replacing them with olive oil or avocado oil instead.
“Doing these little things goes a long way. Plus, I'm a big believer in going outside and getting some morning sunlight. It really helps. Even if it's just for 10 minutes, it really improves your mood. It makes you feel better and improves your mood. It really curbs depression,” Austin said.

And despite being in great shape, the fitness coach also has New Year's resolutions for himself.

“I'd like to start meditating,” she began. “My oldest daughter, Kelly Austin, is teaching me how to meditate more. I need to make it a daily habit. So I try to relax. I enjoy yoga. So for me, yoga is like meditation, I feel calm when I do it, I stretch, and I love walking meditation.

Denise married her husband Jeff Austin in 1983. The couple has two daughters, Kelly Austin and Katie Austin.
