The Food and Drug Administration announced Thursday that a brand of fresh broccoli sold at Walmart stores in 20 states will be recalled due to Listeria monocytogenes contamination.
California-based Braga Fresh has voluntarily recalled 12-ounce bags of washed, ready-to-eat broccoli florets sold in the market.
The FDA is reminding consumers to throw away bags of florets that have a “use by” date of December 10, 2024.
The recalled product has UPC code 6 81131 32884 5 on the back of the bag and Lot Code: BFFG327A6 on the front.
Broccoli florets are available at Walmart stores in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Montana, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas, Utah, Washington State, and Wyoming. It was done.
To date, no person has been found to have become infected with Listeria monocytogenes as a result of consuming this product.
Listeria contamination has potentially life-threatening effects, especially for people at high risk, such as pregnant women, newborns, the elderly, and people with compromised immune systems.
Some people infected with Listeria monocytogenes may experience symptoms such as fever, chills, muscle pain, nausea, and diarrhea.
“The health and safety of our customers is always our top priority,” a Walmart spokesperson told the Post.
“Although the expiry date of the potentially affected Marketside broccoli florets has passed and this product is no longer in stores, it is possible that you still have this product in your home, such as in the freezer. We recommend that some customers discard the product without consuming it.''
A company representative added: “At this time, there are no reports of illness related to this advisory and we are working with our suppliers to investigate.”

This recall is just the latest example of suspected bacterial contamination affecting the nation's food supply.
In late November, Treehouse Foods expanded its recall of frozen waffles and pancakes over concerns about possible listeria contamination.
