MILWAUKEE — Cam Johnson, the Nets' most consistent player all season, was injured on the penultimate play of a 113-110 win at Milwaukee.
The forward twisted his ankle and underwent X-rays at Fiserv Forum on Thursday night.
Johnson told the Post that because the image was negative, he and the Nets avoided a potential worst-case scenario.
Still, Johnson was on crutches after the win and was clearly in discomfort.
It's hard to be disappointed in a road win over a solid Bucks team that the Nets happen to have a draft pick on, but this was it.
The Nets gave Milwaukee a 20-2 lead but hung on in the final seconds.
Damian Lillard missed a potential tying 3-pointer with 4.1 ticks left in regulation.
Johnson and Ziare Williams both went for defensive rebounds, but Johnson fell on the latter's feet and appeared to lose the ball wide of the frame.
Johnson twisted his ankle and jumped off the floor, giving Milwaukee the ball with 6/10 seconds left and Lillard missing a 35-foot heave.
But right now, the Nets may be without their most consistent player.

“Oh, I think that's really embarrassing,” Williams said. “All I know is it was really loud trying to get the ball and Cam was behind me. Yeah, I don't know (what happened). I had to turn around and look. But yeah, I kind of ruined the night. I hope it's nothing important. I feel really bad right now, I'm not going to lie. It’s the worst.”
Johnson scored a team-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 6-of-12 from beyond the arc.
Since Thursday, Johnson is averaging a career-high 19.5 points on white-hot shooting splits of .496/.436/.895.
He's currently down, but it's unclear how long that will last.
“Yeah, it's tough. It's tough to see CJ go down like that,” Cam Thomas told the Post. He scored 24 points in his second game on Thursday after missing a month with a sore left hamstring.
“And it's hard to deal with what you're facing. But we still have enough players here to play. We've got to go out there and keep playing. I'm going to keep fighting, I'm going to keep playing, and I'm going to continue to do my best for those who can't. I hope CJ is doing well.
Johnson is expected to be one of the hottest acquisitions available at the trade deadline, and his 3-point shooting is a driving force in Brooklyn's offense.
“Yeah, it was disappointing. It was disappointing,” D'Angelo Russell said. “But he's a strong guy. He'll be back soon and he'll come back even stronger. I'm not worried about him. He'll be fine.”
Williams finished plus-12 with eight points and six rebounds in his first game back after missing the past 12 games with a left knee injury.
Keon Johnson had a career-high nine rebounds.
