There’s a reason there’s a baseball team named after diamondbacks… Yikes.
While “herping,” or searching for snakes in the wild, a Florida man ended up getting bitten by a venomous eastern diamondback rattlesnake, landing him in the intensive care unit (ICU) for New Year’s Eve.
“Well, I’m cooked. That right there is a fantastic Eastern diamondback rattlesnake that I just got bit in the leg by,” said influencer and wildlife enthusiast David Humphlett in a YouTube video.
Humphlett described the pain as intense and sudden, even comparing it to an alligator attack in an interview with WCJB. (RELATED: Video Shows Massive Buck Attacking Family’s Dog)
Following the bite, he went to a fire station to receive help, complaining that his body had gone numb. Eventually, he was taken to Shands Hospital in a helicopter where he was placed in intensive care. In his two weeks there, he’s gotten 88 vials of anti-venom.
But despite the horrific experience, Humphlett doesn’t want you to be mad at the snake.
“The snake is just doing what it does. It just perceived me as a threat and it was just trying to protect itself. So I’m not mad at the snake and I don’t want anyone else to be mad at the snake either,” he told WCJB.

Best wishes to David Humphlett, and he’s right: You can’t get mad at a snake for being a snake.
