The body of a man who went missing from a Michigan music festival more than six years ago has finally been found just 100 meters from where he was camping, his family said.
Kevin Graves was 28 years old when his girlfriend reported him missing after an argument at the Electric Forest music festival in Rothbury in July 2018, according to police and his father.
The family remained hopeful that he would be found, handing out flyers and even putting up signs asking for help at the same festival the following year.
Michigan State Police on Thursday finally confirmed that Graves' body had been found and identified through dental records, but the random discovery of her body so close to where she disappeared left a grieving family. It only made him more irritated.
“That's where hunters found human remains 100 meters from his campsite,” said his sister, Kelly Grave. told Wood TV.
“I think his clothes were still there, and we found his wallet and cell phone,” she said, adding to the mystery of why he was missing for so long.
“Six years ago, when we said he didn't just run away, where was this? I mean, they could have pulled phone records, they could have pinged his phone. “Maybe,” she asked.
“It’s really frustrating because I shouldn’t have had to wait six and a half years for this.”
After learning of her brother's fate, Kelly Graves said she was “glad to have closure,'' but added, “It's very sad and my parents are really hurting because our hope that he might someday come back is gone.'' ” he said.
The cause of death has not been determined, but police do not suspect foul play.
“I'll miss his smile,” his sister said of the “happy, lucky” man with “the biggest heart.”
Police and Graves' family previously said Graves got into an argument with his girlfriend before he disappeared. But her father, Gary Graves, previously said his biggest worry was that “drugs and other things would be thrown around” at the festival.
“I told him, 'Be careful,' don't get caught up in something you'll regret,” his father said. told Local 4 in 2019
“He said, 'No, I'm going to go in there and have a good time, Dad.'”
The father also previously recalled receiving a creepy email from his son on the day of his disappearance.
“All that was said was, 'Dad, I love your contribution.' I love you, and one day I will pay you back everything I owe you,” Gary Graves said. spoke.
“That was the last I heard from him. I texted him, but he never responded.”
Police do not appear to have said why his body was not found in earlier searches.
