According to an arrest affidavit obtained by FOX News Digital, Carley and his wife got into a verbal argument on his birthday in May when Carley's wife contacted an “unknown person on Instagram,” which then led to a physical altercation. It is said that a heated argument ensued.

Curley aggressively approached his wife, who became so frightened that she punched him, according to the affidavit. Curley then “grabbed the victim, pushed him to the ground, and put his arms around the victim's neck, preventing him from breathing.”

After strangling his wife a second time, Curley stole her cell phone, according to the affidavit. Curley was not present when authorities arrived, and witnesses became uncooperative.

A probable cause alert was then entered into the jail system and charges were filed after his arrest Thursday night.

Carly won a bronze medal in the 100 meters at the summer Olympics in Paris, while teammate Noah Lyles won his first Olympic gold medal. Carly won the 2022 world championships in this event and won a silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics.

He also won the world championship in the 4x400m relay in 2019 and the 4x100m relay in 2023.

Carly was part of the 4x100m team in Paris, but was disqualified due to a botched handoff. Lyles thought he was part of that team, but he contracted the coronavirus earlier in the week, which caused him to fall short in the 200 meters, which was his favorite.
