Chiefs’ plane delayed for hours at airport days before Week 18 game

The Chiefs may have already faced their biggest challenge in leaving Kansas City before their game against the Broncos.

Shortly before its scheduled takeoff Saturday, the Chiefs team plane left behind They spent approximately four hours at Kansas City International Airport (MCI) due to hazardous weather conditions in the area.

The airport was forced to close its airfield for about two hours as airport officials said MCI was dealing with “rapid ice accumulation” in the Kansas City area.

According to KMBCauthorities warned that any travel to the area may be impossible on Sunday.

The Chiefs were scheduled to leave for Denver around 2:45 p.m. ET on Saturday, but only left the airstrip around 6:20 p.m. According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

According to Fox 4 Kansas City, mci de-icer was not working and delayed multiple flights at the airport.

The Kansas City Star reported. The Chiefs were scheduled to depart early Saturday, but the team's plane reportedly experienced a mechanical problem.

The Chiefs are scheduled to play the Broncos in their final regular season game Sunday at 4:25 p.m.

Denver is trying to make one last push of the postseason as the Chiefs try to avoid a second loss of the season.

The Broncos can qualify with a win or if the Dolphins and Bengals lose or tie.
