Olympic Sprinter Wrestled to the Ground, Tased in Confrontation with Police

On Thursday, American Olympic track and field athlete Fred Curley was arrested in Miami Beach after a confrontation with police.

Department released Police body camera footage showed Curley approaching police before being punched and falling to the ground. According to reports, the player was hit with a stun gun and handcuffed. USA Today.

Curley, an Olympic bronze medalist in the men's 100-meter dash, was charged with battery for resisting an officer and disorderly conduct. He was taken to jail and released the next afternoon.

According to a police report, Curley, 29, walked up to the police scene and began peppering officers with questions about his car, which was parked nearby. The report said Curley displayed an “aggressive behavior” and tried to push them away despite warnings to back off. One of the officers reportedly raised his hand toward the Olympian, but he forcefully brushed his hand away.

At that point, officers reportedly tried to take Curley into custody, but Curley took “evasive action to avoid arrest.”

The officers reportedly told him to “stop resisting,” to which he reportedly responded, “I'm not resisting. I'm not resisting.” Stay away from me, brother,” he said, calling the police “weak.”

Curley's companion was also at the scene and can be heard yelling “stop” in the video.

“He didn't do anything!” she told the police officer. “We were walking to our car! Our car is right there!”

Carly, a native of San Antonio, Texas, won a silver medal in the men's 100-meter dash at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics and a silver medal in the 100-meter dash at the 2022 World Championships. He won a bronze medal at last year's Paris Games. He also won medals in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
