Fireworks set off on New Year's Eve that started small fires in calm conditions may have smoldered after being accelerated by strong winds and sparked the wildfire currently burning in Los Angeles' Pacific Palisades.
Andrew Hiers, an associate professor of biological sciences at the University of Southern California who lives near the fire, posted photos and videos to X and said that fireworks appeared to be the most likely cause of the fire.
As of this writing, authorities have not confirmed the cause of the fire. But the Palisades has a persistent fireworks problem, and people from other parts of Los Angeles sometimes set off fireworks in the plaza.
As Breitbart News reported, the fire started spreading rapidly on Tuesday morning, destroying homes and cars. Not only residents but also local schools were evacuated.
A wildfire of unknown cause broke out over the Hollywood Hills.
Strong winds are expected to continue into Wednesday night, potentially causing the fire to worsen before it is extinguished. Local first responders rushed to the scene and are battling the fire under difficult conditions.
