In March 2024, Musk filed a lawsuit against OpenAI, accusing OpenAI of violating its founding mission as a nonprofit company by creating a for-profit organization. OpenAI pushed back on the lawsuit, which was dropped and refiled over the summer, outlining its past agreements with Musk's commercial organizations in a new blog post and lawsuit filing.
