Tom Brady, Multiple Other Teams Trying to Lure Bill Belichick away from UNC

Bill Belichick said he has no plans to quit his new job as head coach at the University of North Carolina, but the former star quarterback in New England is reportedly changing his mind.

The Las Vegas Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce on Monday after just one year on the job. Tom Brady is a minority owner of the Las Vegas franchise and a member of the search committee tasked with finding the Silver and Black's next head coach.

According to NFL Media's Tom Pelissero, Brady is one of many players looking for a former head coach to become the Raiders' new frontman.

“multiple NFL Teams have asked whether legendary coach Bill Belichick would reconsider a move to college football — including the Raiders' new minority owner, according to league sources. “Tom Brady recently spoke with his former coach,” Pelissero wrote in X.

How complicated would it be for Brady or any other NFL team to snatch him away from UNC before Belichick has yet to coach a single game? It's not complicated at all. It just costs money.

“Bill Belichick's UNC contract includes a $10 million buyout if he leaves by June 1, 2025, but if he returns to the NFL in the next few weeks. It's not entirely clear whether or not,” Pelissero explained.

Let's be clear: $10 million is a small amount for an NFL franchise, and it's not an outrageous amount. If Belichick finds a team that needs him, they'll be willing to pay the money and get the legendary coach back in the game.

One would think the Raiders would be an attractive landing spot for Belichick. He would be in an ownership alliance with Brady, and as a student and historian of the game, he might relish the opportunity to return the Raiders to the former glory of Beličić's youth. But he'll have to really want the job, as Las Vegas doesn't have a franchise quarterback and doesn't have the draft picks to take either Shedule Sanders or Cam Ward.
