NFL legend Tom Brady has reportedly contacted former NFL coach Bill Belichick about returning to the big leagues.
Brady and Belichick won six Super Bowls with the New England Patriots, then Brady went on to win more championships with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers before retiring.
Belichick was recently fired by the Patriots and signed a five-year, $50 million contract to become the head coach at the University of North Carolina.
Brady later became a minority owner of the Las Vegas Raiders, similar to the NFL's Tom Pelissero. reportedhe has already reached out to Belichick.
Pelissero reportedly asked Brady what it would take to make a reunion happen in Las Vegas, citing inside sources.
The Raiders fired head coach Antonio Pierce this week after going 4-13 in his only season with the team.
Brady apparently believes the Raiders need a coach of Belichick's caliber to maintain a winning culture and run a decent football program. The Raiders moved to Las Vegas in 2020.
“They haven’t called me and asked me, so I don’t know.”
Multiple NFL teams reportedly sent emissaries to Belichick. But the legendary coach said on “The Pat McAfee Show” that his former team, the Patriots, is not that team.
“I don't really comment on the situation with the Patriots,” Belichick said this week about the team's firing of coach Jerod Mayo. “They have their decision makers… [but] You can't tell from looking at it from the outside. I don’t know because they haven’t called me and asked me,” he said. laughed.
Reports recently surfaced that Belichick was forced out of the Patriots organization as he became exhausted in negotiations with owners and demands to hand over control of the team increased. Belichick was also said to be “tired” of NFL politics and tired of seeing owners be indifferent to whether he was in it or not.
One source even claimed that Belichick was told he was not qualified to “empower.”
Belichick's contract with North Carolina State included a $10 million buyout if he leaves by June 1, 2025. If he returns to the NFL, it would be an incredibly quick turnaround before he coaches a single game in the NCAA.
For some reason, Belichick has kept the terms of his contract with the Patriots a secret for years, but analysts have no doubt that Belichick could pay for UNC himself if he wanted.
