Pete Carroll to interview with Raiders as Bill Belichick rumors swirl

Pete Carroll is a rising star this offseason.

The Raiders also count as an interested party.

Las Vegas is scheduled to interview Carroll for the head coaching position next week. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday night..

The former Seahawks coach interviewed with the Bears earlier in the day for another job in the NFL.

Carroll, 73, led Seattle for 14 seasons and won the 2014 Super Bowl, defeating the Broncos.

Despite this, he was unposted after last season and was replaced by Mike McDonald after going 9-8 over his final two years. McDonald led the Seahawks to a 10-7 record this season, but it wasn't enough to make the playoffs.

It's been a busy few days for the Raiders, who fired head coach Antonio Pierce on Tuesday and then effectively fired general manager Tom Telesco after just one year on the job.

It's not yet clear who the Raiders want to target as the team's coach, but club co-owner Tom Brady recently talked about dropping out of the University of North Carolina and moving to Las Vegas, according to NFL.com. He has contacted Bill Belichick.

Belichick was just named UNC's coach in December, so a move to the Raiders before the season would be pretty quick.

Nevertheless, Tar Heels general manager Michael Lombardi said on “The Pat McAfee Show” Thursday that Belichick is “fully committed” to North Carolina.

Besides Carroll, the Raiders have Lions assistants Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn, Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken and former Jets head coach Robert Saleh. He is reportedly interested in meeting.
