One of the victims of wildfires in the Los Angeles area was found dead holding a hose while protecting his home.
The fire claimed the lives of at least five people, one of whom protect Escaped his house from fire. Victor Shaw, 66, was found on the side of the road near his home, still holding a garden hose. He lived in the home with his sister, Shari Shaw, according to KTLA5.
She evacuated the area and urged her brother to come with her, but he wanted to stay home and protect the home that had been in the family for decades from the fire.
“When I ran back into the room and shouted his name, he didn't respond. And the embers were so big and flying like a firestorm that I had to go outside. I had to save myself,” said his sister Shari Shaw. Exit.
“And I looked behind me and the house was starting to burn and I had to get out of there,” she continued.
The body was discovered the next day. A friend of the family told the outlet that it appeared they were trying to save the house. Mr Shaw's sister said she “fell to the ground” when she realized what had happened.
“I didn't want to look at him. They just said he was lying on the ground and looked calm, like he was at peace,” she said.

“Red flag wind conditions are expected to persist into Thursday evening. The combination of low humidity, dry fuel and changing winds increases the likelihood of ignition and rapid spread,” it warned.
