The train engineer who struck and killed three homeless men on railroad tracks off the Alabama coast said he never saw them or knew he had hit them.
alabama port authority Talk to WALA-TV A second engineer, who had a different view of the tracks, discovered the body more than six hours later on Tuesday and called Mobile Police.
Police said two of the victims were found together and the third's body was found about a mile (1.6 km) away.
A single-track railroad runs through Mobile's densely populated areas and connects to the port facilities.
According to police, the two men are 46 and 63 years old. Their names are not being released pending notification of their families.
Authorities have not yet identified the third man.
According to local residents, the three men were regularly wandering around the railroad tracks.
Police believe they may have been asleep.
Police said the train honked its horn before passing through the area and no criminal charges will be filed.
