Biden ATF Director Steven Dettelbach chuckled Friday when he was offered an 80 percent discount on AR-15s as a farewell gift for his resignation.
Ironically, Dettelbach and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) classified 80 percent of frames as “firearms” during the Biden era, making it difficult for ordinary Americans to obtain their firearms without identification. We made it mandatory to go through a background check, just like you have to go through an investigation. For real guns.
Dettelbach was handed an 80 percent frame as a farewell gift on Friday, but was told it didn't need to be “tracked” or “registered,” which caused him to chuckle out loud.
On Dettelbach's watch, the ATF unilaterally enacted numerous gun regulations through regulatory action. In addition to the 80 percent frame rule, the ATF outlawed AR pistols with stabilizer braces, instituted universal-style background checks, and even required smugglers to submit their firearms to NICS inspections.
Some of the above regulations and others have been blocked by local or circuit courts.
Detelbach tendered his resignation effective January 18, 2025, two days before President-elect Donald Trump takes office.
The Firearms Policy Coalition responded to Dettelbach's resignation with a post about X. said“Ishimi” [in case you missed it]: ATF Director Steve Dettelbach has tendered his resignation effective January 18th. A great start to 2025. ”
The Citizens Committee on the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) also supported Dettelbach's pending departure. “This is one less person President Trump will have to fire after taking office, and one less gun lobbyist on the government payroll,” said Alan Gottlieb, president of the group.
