Mike Vrabel in negotiations to become next Patriots head coach: report

According to the Boston Globe, the New England Patriots are in talks to hire Mike Vrabel as their next head coach.

After former head coach Jerod Mayo was fired Sunday after just one season, Vrabel is the frontrunner to replace him.

Vrabel is a Hall of Famer after eight seasons with the Patriots. During his career in New England from 2001 to 2008, he won three Super Bowls with Tom Brady and Bill Belichick.

Vrabel compiled a 54-45 record in six seasons as head coach of the Tennessee Titans from 2018 to 2023, including three playoff appearances and one AFC title game appearance.

Vrabel was fired by the Titans after the 2023 season and then served in a part-time role as a coaching and personnel consultant with the Cleveland Browns in 2024.

Vrabel was projected to be a top head coaching candidate in 2025. He has also met with the Jets and Bears.

The Patriots also interviewed Ben Johnson, Byron Leftwich and Pep Hamilton for the head coaching position.

Vrabel was born in Ohio and played for the United States national team. ohio state buckeyes Mid 1990s.

Vrabel finished his professional career with 769 tackles, 57 sacks, and 11 interceptions. He received All-Pro honors for his outstanding 2007 season with the New England Patriots.

The Patriots are 8-26 over the past two seasons with Bill Belichick and Mayo as head coaches.
