On February 19, 2015, Breitbart News reported that Gary Kleck, a professor of criminology at Florida State University, published an academic study that found that at least 760,000 defensive gun uses (DGUs) occur in the United States each year. He pointed out that he had reconfirmed it.
For those unfamiliar with Kleck's work, his work on DGUs began to be discussed publicly in 1993 with the publication of the National Self-Defense Study. Since then, his research has been criticized by gun control advocates and various left-wing researchers, but has yet to be disproved by empirical evidence.
