Woman’s accused killer arrested decades after he reported her missing

An Ohio man has been charged with murdering his girlfriend, whose body was found nearly 25 years ago, but previously avoided prosecution in the case.

The Montgomery County Prosecutor's Office announced Monday that Jonathan Eric Link, 60, was arrested at his home in Centerville, Ohio, on suspicion of killing 29-year-old Shannon Anderson.

Link reported Anderson missing to authorities on July 30, 2001, and her body was discovered in rural Ross County on August 16, 2001.

“After nearly a quarter-century, this defendant will finally be held accountable for the murder of Shannon Anderson,” Montgomery County Prosecutor Matt Heck Jr. said in a statement.

Just a few months into the investigation, police found Anderson's car abandoned in an Atlanta airport parking lot.

A Montgomery County grand jury in 2002 determined there was insufficient evidence to indict Link for murder, and the Kettering Police Department has been working with cold case detectives on the investigation ever since.

The Tactical Crime Suppression Unit (TCSU) was recently assigned to assist police, and investigators from multiple law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, assisted in this case.

Additional witnesses were located and interviewed and new forensic evidence was digitally tested. The case was again presented to the Montgomery County Grand Jury, which found enough evidence to indict Link for Anderson's murder.

“I commend the Kettering Police Department and all other agencies for the excellent work they did together to bring this case to the grand jury,” Heck said in a statement.

Link was charged with two counts of murder. His arraignment hearing is scheduled for January 28th.
