Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers (D) on Tuesday morning used an executive order to create a state-level violence prevention agency dedicated to combating gun violence.
KSTP reported Evers said he did this in response to the Dec. 16, 2024, mass shooting at Abundant Life Christian School in Madison that left two innocent people dead.
The suspect in the shooting is a 15-year-old student, but police have not said how he obtained the gun.
After signing the executive order, Evers used the X-Post to push for stricter gun laws. post Said:
And with 60% of suicides and 78% of domestic violence homicides involving firearms, and firearms being the leading cause of death for children nationwide, comprehensive, common-sense gun safety reform is essential. , clearly an important part of reducing crime and violence across the state. ”
Evers did not mention that the gun the 15-year-old used was legally purchased by someone, but police have not released the name of the purchaser. Breitbart News reported that the 15-year-old girl had two handguns with her and WISN. noticed Madison Police Chief Sean Burns said both were obtained legally.
There is already a law in place that prohibits young people as young as 15 from entering stores and purchasing guns. Federal law requires long-range gun buyers to be at least 18 years old and handgun buyers to be at least 21 years old. Some states have unilaterally raised the minimum age for purchasing long-range guns, requiring buyers of such guns to be at least 21 years old, rather than 18 years old. By the way, 15-year-old boys can no longer buy the 9mm handgun used in the Abundant Christian School shooting.
