Texas starting quarterback Quinn Ewers declared for the 2025 NFL Draft, paving the way for Manning to become the Longhorns' starting quarterback next season.
Next season could be Manning's only season as a starter before heading to the NFL.
College and NFL fans alike know that the latest quarterback in the Manning dynasty is a top recruit and nephew of NFL Hall of Famer Peyton Manning and Hall of Fame candidate Eli Manning. But unlike most prospects, Manning barely played the past two seasons.
Manning, ESPN's No. 5 Prospect Class of 2023appeared in just two games and threw five passes, helping the Longhorns reach the College Football Playoff semifinals as a freshman.
Manning remained in Austin despite the loss to Ewers and limited playing time.
Texas used Manning more this season, with the sophomore playing in 10 games and even starting alongside Ewers, who was sidelined with an oblique injury.
Manning completed 41 of 60 passes for 583 yards, four touchdowns, and one interception. He also added a fast break score.
For the season, Manning had nine touchdown passes and two interceptions, completing 67.8 percent of his passes. He rushed 25 times for 108 yards and scored four touchdowns.
With Ewers healthy, Manning was primarily useful in rushing situations. He rushed for a first down on a third-and-1 in last week's 28-14 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff semifinals.
Some wondered if Manning would consider moving this offseason, but Manning reiterated his commitment to the Longhorns.
“We're not planning on going into the portal or anything, so we don't really know about the whole window and everything else,” he told Rivals before Texas and Arizona State meet in the CFP quarterfinals.
If Manning lives up to expectations, he could be considered one of the crown jewels of the 2026 draft class and could potentially play for the quarterback-needy Giants or Jets.
The 2026 quarterback class is considered superior to the 2025 Crew, and Manning has been mentioned as a possible prize on the Tank team unless he follows in the footsteps of Peyton and Eli and sticks around for his senior season.
