David Stearns can’t let magical Mets moment sway Pete Alonso talks

The sun's temperature on Wednesday morning was 19 degrees. It was so cold that I had to thaw my hair before brushing it. The cold brought to mind something Frank Gifford said in the early afternoon of Dec. 31, 1967, hours before kickoff at the Ice Bowl at Lambeau Field.

“I just took a nice sip of coffee,” Gifford said.

This is what it looked like when we were at American Family Field in Milwaukee on October 3, 2024, finishing at 8:30 PM local time and arriving back in New York at 9:30. The Mets lead the Brewers 2-0 in the top of the 9th inning, but are facing two players, Devin Williams, then the Brew Crew's lockdown closer and now of the Yankees. Pete Alonso is hitting for the Mets. One is out. He completed a 3-and-1 count against Williams.
