The New Georgia Project, a nonprofit voting advocacy group founded by Georgia's unsuccessful Democratic gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams, has been hit with the largest campaign finance fine in the state's history.

The New Georgia Project, founded by Abrams in 2013 and taken over by Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.) in 2017, operates as a charity that accepts tax-deductible donations.
It is unclear why she left the group in 2017.
The group was originally formed to register more progressive young voters and minority voters.
