Amidst the speculation linking Deion Sanders to the Cowboys' open head coaching job, another interesting question may be emerging.
Sanders, who is still the head coach at the University of Colorado, admitted that he has talked with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones about an NFL coaching position.
But then there's a further twist NFL Network's Jane Slater reports. Colorado had shown “resistance” to Sanders' requests for additional NIL and personnel resources, the report said.
“According to two people familiar with the situation, Sanders approached Colorado State AD Rick George on Tuesday about additional funding for NIL and its staff,” she reported in X. “Mr. Sanders encountered resistance. The University of Colorado would not confirm or deny the information when I contacted him. Deion Sanders did not respond to multiple requests for comment.”
Sanders is coming off a season in 2024 in which he led the Buffaloes to a 9-4 record and 7-2 in conference play.
The sincerity of any potential interest between Sanders and the Cowboys is unclear, with various reports indicating otherwise.
W.F.A.A. Ed Werder reports on X “If Jerry Jones made me an offer to be the next head coach of the Cowboys, I would almost certainly accept,” Sanders said.
But The Athletic's Dianna Russini said she thought “it's all smoke” when she appeared on “The Dan Le Batard Show with Stagots.”

“Everyone's wink-wink about this. I don't think the Dallas Cowboys had a plan,” Russini said. “I think they felt like it would work with Mike McCarthy. Mike McCarthy is like, 'No, I'm fine.' This is not what I want contractually. ”He walks. jerry [Jones]I said, “Okay, I have to go find a head coach.'' ”
Sanders said the call from Jones was “intriguing” but that he loves “Boulder and everything about our team, coaches, student body and community.”
But he hasn't completely ruled out interest in the job.
