Republicans to Propose Banning All Trans Athletes from Women’s Sports

Republicans in Congress will reportedly propose a resolution to ban all transgender athletes from women's sports.

The Republican push follows the success of Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.). passing Protection of women and girls in sports law.

“Mr. Steube plans to introduce a joint resolution with Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.). NCAA We will disqualify all trans athletes who compete as women.” fox news.

“The draft resolution, obtained by Fox News, also calls for the NCAA to 'create a new policy that would prohibit men who identify as transgender from competing as women in the future and to require all member conferences to do the same. “We urge them to encourage this,” he added.

This resolution differs from the Women and Girls in Sports Act in that it directly addresses the issue of men playing women's sports at the collegiate level.

The resolution was made during NCAA President Charlie Baker's remarks before the Senate Judiciary Committee about legalized sports betting, stating that if a transgender athlete feels uncomfortable, the woman will have to seek alternative facilities herself. This was done in response to suggestions that it should be done. During his testimony, several Republican senators confronted him about transgender issues in women's sports. Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Missouri) specifically cited the NCAA's specific statement that “transgender student-athletes should be able to use locker room, shower, and restroom facilities consistent with their gender identity.” I asked about the policy.

“Others should have the opportunity to use other facilities if they wish,” Baker responded.

Baker said the NCAA allows universities hosting sporting events to admit athletes they deem appropriate.

“We believe our guidelines give people freedom of choice in how they use our facilities,” Baker said. “We told the locals hosting the tournament that they needed to provide accommodation for the people playing.”
