Republican Ohio Governor Mike DeWine has rejected Vivek Ramaswamy's reported enthusiastic bid to fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Vice President-elect J.D. He chose Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted.
DeWine created announcement from his social media accounts on Friday.
“He's a serious guy even at very serious times.”
Ramaswamy was embroiled in a heated online debate over the H-1B visa system, which many on the right oppose but tech entrepreneurs support. Billionaire Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and SpaceX, is an enthusiastic supporter of the system.
Anonymous source said To Politico Ramaswamy said he learned during a phone conversation on Friday that he would not be elected to the Senate. The Columbus-area entrepreneur reportedly ran for governor late, even though he had previously announced he would run for governor, and was campaigning hard.
“It was strange,” a source said.
Husted is considered an “institutionalist” and will likely continue the governor's policies.
“He is a serious person even in very serious situations,” the source said of Lt. Governor Husted. “And no one knows this state very well.”
Center for Christian Virtue approved Choices on social media.
“Throughout his service to Ohio, Lieutenant Governor Husted has been a champion for Ohio's children and families,” CCV President Aaron Baer said in a statement. “Under his leadership, Ohio has become a national school choice leader and has taken important steps to protect parents' rights. We understand the challenges facing Ohio's communities and families today. We are grateful that Governor DeWine has chosen such a pro-life leader.”
