Rep. August Pfluger Introduces Bill to Ban Vote Counting After Election Day

A new bill by Rep. August Pflueger (R-Texas) would prevent rogue Democratic strongholds like California from continuing to count votes for several weeks after Election Day.

Pfluger introduced the Restoring America's Confidence in Elections Act in response to President-elect Donald Trump's call for election vote counting to end by 10 p.m.

“As you know, we're still counting votes in some areas. Can you believe it?” President Trump said at a press conference at Mar-a-Lago on January 7.

“We have to resolve the election.” [so] I want to do an honest tally and be done by 10pm or so,” he added.

Pfluger responded to President Trump's call by introducing new legislation on Thursday.

“The last two elections were completely unprecedented, with a huge increase in the number of mail-in votes, a longer early voting period, and longer certification decisions for each state,” Pflueger told Breitbart News. said in an exclusive statement.

“With President Trump back in office and a sense of normalcy restored, now is the time to do the same in the election.”

Fed Electoral Race Law Flagger

Republicans often go in the wrong direction when counting votes after Election Day. said Sean Steele, a Republican National Committee member from California. Breitbart News Sunday Host Joel Pollack said in December that Democrats won several seats in the Golden State because votes received after Election Day were counted. This was illegal in other states.

“It all goes back to COVID and the way the law was changed…absentee ballots for everyone flooded the market,” Steele said.

His wife, former Rep. Michelle Steele (R-Calif.), narrowly lost to Democratic challenger Derek Tran by 603 votes on Election Day; He was leading by a difference. Congressman Steele also gained on Election Day and absentee ballots, but lost significantly on drop-box votes.

Steele noted that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit has ruled: struck down A state law that allows ballots to be counted after Election Day, even if they are postmarked by Election Day. The RNC was challenging a Mississippi law that allows such ballots to be counted.

Pflueger believes his bill will promote election integrity and restore public confidence in elections.

“There is no reason for vote counts to exceed 10 p.m. on Election Day or for certification to take more than 48 hours, and we have seen both happen in the past two elections.” Pflueger said. “This bill will help end this type of nonsense and ensure efficient, free, and fair elections that deliver timely, accurate, and decisive results for the American people.”

Republicans hold a slim majority in the House of Representatives, which they hope to maintain in the 2026 midterm elections. If Mr. Pfluger's bill becomes law, it could give Republicans a more level playing field.
