Live updates: Trump inauguration weekend commences as protesters rally in Washington

Inauguration festivities begin in earnest on Saturday as President-elect Trump, his allies and protesters arrive in Washington ahead of Monday's inauguration of the 47th US president.

President Trump is scheduled to arrive at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, before hosting a reception and fireworks display at a golf course in Virginia. A Cabinet reception and dinner for Vice President-elect Vance are also planned for Saturday night at the National Museum of Art.

The DC People's March, organized by several activist groups, is also scheduled to begin Saturday morning across the city. About 50,000 people are expected to attend, culminating in a rally in front of the Lincoln Memorial at 3 p.m.

On Sunday, President Trump will host a rally at Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, where allies including tech billionaire Elon Musk are scheduled to speak. The Village People, Kid Rock and Billy Ray Cyrus are also scheduled to perform.

Monday's inauguration ceremony was held inside the U.S. Capitol as mild weather is forecast for Saturday, but subzero temperatures and a blizzard are expected to blanket Washington later in the weekend.
