Outrage over Short Prison Sentences for Grooming Gang Child Rapists

Britain's justice system has come under criticism after eight members of a child rape grooming gang were given light sentences for the abuse and rape of two girls in Keighley in the late 1990s.

west yorkshire police revealed On Friday, Bradford Crown Court sentenced eight members of a grooming gang over the past two years for the sexual exploitation of two young girls between 1996 and 1999.

However, the announcement was muddied because many considered the sentences for child rape to be too lenient, especially given that most offenders in the UK are released after serving only half their sentences in prison. I was hooked.

This will likely mean that some of those jailed at Bradford Crown Court will receive sentences of less than two years for child rape.

Police said that after the first trial concluded on October 20, 2023, five men were jailed, including Amreaz Asghar, 47, for four and a half years for rape, and Perwaz Asghar, 50, for six and a half years for rape. announced. Mohammad Din (47) for two counts of indecent assault, 14 years; 11 counts of rape; Sajid Mahmood Khan (45), three years for rape; Zehrun Razak, 47, six years for rape. half.

Following the conclusion of the second trial on Friday, three more people were found guilty, but two were tried in absentia as they are currently missing. West Yorkshire Police said Ibrar Hussain, 47, was sentenced to six-and-a-half years in prison for two counts of rape.

The two men, Fayaz Ahmed, 45, and Imtiaz Ahmed, 61, who were tried in absentia, were sentenced to seven and a half years in prison and nine years in prison respectively.

Both victims were between 13 and 16 years old at the time of the grooming crime. Mohamed Din was found guilty of raping two girls, and other men were found guilty of raping the first victim who came forward to police, but she did not survive until she was an adult. committed a similar act.

Former detective turned grooming gang whistleblower Maggie Oliver receives sentence said: “These sentences in this Cayley gang rape gang case are, again, just unbelievable – 13/14 year old children raped repeatedly and their rapists served half of these sentences in prison. That means 18 months for one rapist and just over 2 years for the other.

“Shocking! Again! And to be honest, I'm speechless, and I'm sure the police officers who put this case together are disgusted by these sentences as well. Horrifying!”

Grooming gang victim and activist Sammy Woodhouse added: “A British judge has sentenced a man who raped a child to three years in prison. He will not serve even half of that. Absolutely despicable. So many children in our country have been raped. No wonder it is.”

The British public also appears to want harsher punishments for grooming child rapists. A survey published this week by Friederichs Advisory and JL Partners found that around 47% of Brits support life sentences for such offenders, and 30% support the death penalty for gang rape raids.

Following the announcement of the sentence in Keighley, Detective Inspector Vicky Greenbank, of Bradford District Police, said: Cases like this are so sensitive and complex that it takes years of painstaking investigation to bring them to court.

“I would like to take this opportunity to commend both victims for coming forward and reporting the matter to police. “Both have shown immense patience while the criminal investigation is ongoing and have been involved in the court process. Then you showed courage.

“The abuse that these two girls suffered robbed them of their childhoods. I hope that by seeing the men sentenced for such horrific crimes, they will be given justice and some closure.” I hope.”
