‘The Whole World Is Counting on You’

Dave Chappelle returns saturday night live On stage, wearing a sharp suit and smoking a cigarette, he performed a series of references to the presidential election, the Los Angeles wildfires, Sean Diddy Combs, and President-elect Donald Trump, whom the veteran comedian hoped would succeed in the election. Armed with fiery jokes. Second term.

“The presidency is no place for little people. So, Donald Trump, I know you're watching this show. Remember, whether people voted for you or not. People are counting on you,” Chappelle said after jokingly saying he knew Trump was watching the show. “Whether they like you or not, they're all counting on you. The whole world is counting on you.”

“When I say this, what I mean is, 'Good luck.' Please try harder next time. Everyone, try harder next time,” Chappelle continued. “Remember your humanity and have empathy for the displaced, whether it's the Palisades or Palestine.”

That was the last line of his nearly 20-minute monologue.

Chappelle began his performance by first explaining how he spoke. SNL Creator Lorne Michaels didn't want to host the first post-election episode like he did in 2016 and 2020. After repeatedly telling Michaels no, Chappelle said he had an epiphany. I wish he would stop making all the old Trump jokes. I'll do it! '' he said, adding, “The moment I said yes, L.A. was on fire!''

Chappelle, who lives one town over from Springfield in Ohio (more on that later), talked about how the deadly L.A. fires broke his heart. I also found that the negative comments online criticizing the many celebrities who lost their homes reminded me of why I hate poor people. “Because they can't get over their pain.”

“They said on the news the other day that this fire was the most expensive tragedy in the history of the United States, and I think that's because the people of L.A. have a good one. About six or seven dollars. “We could burn 40,000 acres in Mississippi,” Chappelle joked. “If you're a rational, thinking person, you should at least consider the possibility that God hates these people.”

Chappelle then drew attention to President Trump's comments about Haitians in Springfield, Ohio, last year.

“Trump is a wild man. He said the Haitians in Springfield, Ohio were eating people's dogs and cats. I live one town over from Springfield. In Springfield. That never happened,” Chappelle said. He said he wanted to show support for Haitian immigrants to let them know they are welcome. “Every day, I would drive to Springfield and eat lunch at a Haitian restaurant,” Chappelle said, stopping. “To be honest, I don't know what that meat was. But whatever it was, it fell right off the bone.”

Chappelle said she realized in the worst possible way why she didn't know about Diddy's “Freak Off” orgy. “Oh my god, I'm ugly! That's the hard way to find out,” he joked. “Can you imagine if I were you and you read the newspaper and find out that everyone in Hollywood was having an orgy behind your back?”
