Matthew Stafford coy about future after Rams’ season ends

Matthew Stafford's future is a little uncertain after the Rams were eliminated from the playoffs on Sunday.

But the 36-year-old quarterback didn't seem too excited to talk about next season when he spoke to reporters after a 28-22 loss in Philadelphia.

“As for my future, it's been 30 minutes since my last game, so I'm going to take some time to think about it,” Stafford said. “But I feel like I played pretty good ball.”

Stafford, the No. 1 overall pick in 2009, has two years left on his contract, but it's a bit of a mystery whether he will remain in Los Angeles.

Asked by reporters if he felt like there was still gas left in the tank, he said: “It certainly feels like it.”

Rams coach Sean McVay wasn't interested in discussing the topic when it came up after the loss to the Eagles.

“I'm not interested in talking too much about what's involved next year,” he said. “Right now, I just want to thank this team.”

Stafford reportedly arranged contacts before training camp began last summer, and the two teams planned to play out the 2024 season and then reevaluate.

The Rams quarterback threw for 324 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Divisional Round matchup against the Eagles and completed 340 passes for 3,762 yards and 20 touchdowns during the regular season.

“I'm proud to be involved with this group, the coaching staff, the front office, the player group, the training staff, the equipment guys, everyone,” Stafford said. “It's been a lot of hard work to get here this year. Any time you play like this and get to the playoffs and get wins and keep it going, it's even harder if you come up short. It's hard. But I'm a little proud to be part of this group.”
