Senate Majority Leader John Thune, R-S.C., said Monday that he believes there is a “pathway” for the rest of President Trump's Cabinet nominees to be confirmed.
“I think they all have a path to get there,” Thune said in an interview on NBC's “Today” show when asked if he thought the rest of Trump's Cabinet nominees would be approved.
“Now, there are some who haven't had their confirmation hearings yet,” Thune continued, “so I'm withholding judgment until they come out of the committee, where they will be asked difficult questions. Because it becomes.”
He added: “I think it's important that that process is followed and I guarantee a fair process.”
The interview took place hours before Trump was sworn into office.
Some of President Trump's picks for this Cabinet are already facing confirmation hearings from Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (R), Trump's pick for secretary of state. Chris Wright, a fossil fuel executive who is set to lead the Department of Energy. Former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi was nominated by President Trump to be attorney general. Former North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (Republican), candidate for Secretary of the Interior. Treasury Secretary candidate Scott Bessent.
Some have yet to appear before the committee, including Robert F. Kennedy Jr., whom President Trump nominated to lead the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard (Florida) was nominated by President Trump to be Director of National Intelligence. Kash Patel was President Trump's choice to head the FBI.
