Charles Barkley trashes San Francisco as ‘rat infested’

Hall of Fame basketball player Charles Barkley once again criticized San Francisco as a dirty city, much to the dismay of his co-hosts.

While covering highlights from the Indiana Pacers vs. Detroit Pistons game, TNT host Ernie Johnson specifically talked about the great season Pistons player Cade Cunningham is having.

Cunningham is averaging a career-high 24.3 points per game through 38 games, and also has career-highs in rebounds and assists.

As the broadcast team was debating whether Cunningham should be selected for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game in San Francisco, Barkley made it clear once again that he is not a fan of the city.

“Hey, listen. [if] He won't be on the team, and neither will I. I don't go to rat infested areas in San Francisco. ”

“Stop it, dude!” host Johnson begged.

As the highlights continued, Barkley got into an argument with co-host Shaquille O'Neal, and co-host Kenny Smith, another former NBA great, could be heard laughing at the exchange.

“You're not going to make me like San Francisco,” Barkley reiterated.

Mr. Johnson forced him, “I know you're not! Keep that to yourself.”

Mr. Barclay, still asserting his opinion, added: “No, no, no, no, no.”

“We love San Francisco!”

The exchange wasn't the first time Mr. Barclay had to face harsh realities to promote the city by the bay.

In fact, Barkley made similar remarks during a live broadcast of the 2024 NBA All-Star Game in Indiana.

Barkley described the city as full of “homeless crooks,” but this time Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green was on the attack.

Barkley asked Hall of Famer Reggie Miller about the choice between “staying out cold or being around a bunch of homeless scammers in San Francisco.” This caused Green to immediately interrupt.

“That's crazy!” Green said.

To which reporter Taylor Rooks replied, “We love San Francisco!”

“No, it's not!” Berkeley claimed that.

“Yes, that's right!” Green returned.

Mr Barclay claimed residents “can't even walk around” the city, while Mr Green claimed they could.

Berkeley declared, “Yes, with bulletproof vests and security!”

The 2025 NBA All-Star Game will be broadcast on TNT on February 16th and will feature four teams, with Barkley, O'Neal and Smith selecting players for three of the teams.
