Rev. Al Sharpton threatens boycotts for companies ending DEI: ‘You took everything’

MSNBC's Pastor Al Sharpton calls on all Americans to boycott Companies are eliminating diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts are trying to put Black people in the “back of the bus,” the report says.

Mr. Sharpton made the announcement at Metropolitan AME Church in Washington, DC. during the rally In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday. He said this call to action is in the spirit of Dr. King's legacy as a civil rights activist.

“Why do we have DEI? We have DEI because you denied our diversity, you denied our equity, you denied our inclusivity. DEI was a remedy for the practices of racial institutionalized bias in academia and these companies. Now, if you want to put us back in the back of the bus, King Rosa Parks. I’ll give you the Doctor,” Sharpton said.

“You forget who we are,” he added. “We are what you took everything from and we are still here.”

Sharpton announced that his organization, the National Action Network, will be participating in a multi-month investigation to examine companies and their profit margins that are moving away from DEI policies. Once the investigation is complete, the two companies will be subject to boycotts.

“In the next 90 days, we will announce the two companies we will be tracking and ask everyone in this country, black, white, brown, gay, straight, transgender, to not buy from us anywhere. I’m going to ask, ‘You’re not respected,’” Sharpton said.

Mr. Sharpton's announcement came later. multiple companies Walmart, McDonald's, Ford, Meta, and others have announced they will scale back or eliminate their DEI efforts.

Sharpton encouraged his supporters to rally around companies that are keeping their profits intact. DEI policies like Costco.

At the time of Sharpton's announcement, President Trump was sworn in as the 47th president. Shortly after taking the oath of office, President Trump signed an executive order ending DEI programs across the federal government.

Zuckerberg and other bigwigs say they are retreating from ESG and DEI, but is that really the case?

“We want people to see a story of two cities in one district,” Sharpton said. “On this side of town, Martin Luther King Jr. gave his life to open America up for everyone: black, white, gay, straight. It didn't matter. . We are with Dr. King.”
