Naomi Watts has revealed the cheeky comment Billy Crudup made about his testicles to cheer her up when they first slept together.
In her new book, Dare I Say: Everything You Need to Know About Menopause, the 56-year-old actress reveals that when she first started experiencing menopause, she was wearing an estrogen patch for hormone therapy. I'm reminiscing about that.
“I was worried about what I would do if he saw me. [the patch] “He will understand that it means I am menopausal, meaning I am no longer a vibrant, fertile being,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, the adhesive in the patch leaves marks on the skin and is very difficult to remove.”
Watts remembers peeling off the patch in preparation for a hot, heavy night at Crudup's house, but spent long hours in the bathroom scrubbing her skin “raw” so no marks would be visible. .
The “Morning Show” actor, also 56, asked the “Mulholland Drive” cast if it was okay because it was taking so long.
“I came home mortified,” she wrote. “I stumbled and searched for words, but nothing came out.”
Eventually, Watts explained to Crudup that she was wearing a menopause patch and didn't want him to know.
“A smile appeared on his face. He seemed so relieved that the problem wasn't a lack of desire,” she shared. “He said he thought it was great that I was taking care of myself and asked how he could help.”
To make the “Rings” star feel better about himself, the Tony Award nominee opened up about his own aging experience.
According to the book, he told her, “If it makes you feel better, I have gray hair in my balls.”
Watts joked that those words are still “the most romantic words” he has ever heard “on screen and off screen.”
“That includes the scripts for every movie I've ever been in,” she wrote. “And even a very loving proposal from this same man seven years later.”
The “King Kong” star and Crudup fell in love on the set of the Netflix series “Gypsy” in 2017.
The two continued to date in private, and it was five years later that they made their red carpet debut.
The lovebirds sparked engagement rumors in 2023 and confirmed they were married two months later.
Prior to their relationship, Watts dated Liev Schreiber for 11 years before breaking up in 2016. The couple have two children, son Sasha (17) and daughter Kai (16).
Shriver, 57, secretly married Taylor Neisen in 2023 and welcomed their first child, daughter Hazel, a month later.
Mr Crudup shares son William, 21, with ex-girlfriend Mary-Louise Parker. The Almost Famous actor infamously left Parker while Claire Danes was seven months pregnant.
