Rep. Nancy Mace (R.C.) is considering a run for governor of South Carolina, her spokesperson confirmed to The Hill on Wednesday.
In an interview with Mace Associated Press He said he is “seriously considering” running to replace Republican Gov. Henry McMaster, who is term-limited.
“I have been in the state Legislature before and now have great relationships in Washington, and I have the leadership I need to act boldly to advance conservative policies. “I did,” she told The Associated Press.
“I have made a difference in my work, but I know I can do even more at the state level,” she added.
Mace represents the Lowcountry in South Carolina's 1st Congressional District. An ardent supporter of President Trump, she supported him over former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley (Republican) in the 2024 Republican presidential primary.
Mr. Trump and Mr. Mace have not always seen eye to eye. Trump endorsed Mace's primary challenger during his first re-election campaign, following Mace's criticism of Trump after the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol.
But Mace survived the first challenge and took another in the last cycle after voting with a small group of Republicans and Democrats to expel then-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) .
“I don't completely agree with any candidate, and up until now I've avoided it. But it's time to come together in support of our candidates,” Mace said.I said it in the previous postWhen he announced his support for Trump in the January primary.
“Let's be honest, it's been a total shit show since he left the White House. Our country needs to reverse all the damage Joe Biden has done,” she added.
Mace recently proposed a bill that would ban transgender people from using restrooms and other facilities consistent with their gender identity in federal buildings, and a bill that would ban transgender women from using facilities consistent with their gender identity inside the Capitol. The bill is attracting attention. The move comes as Rep. Sarah McBride (D-Delaware) is the first openly transgender member to serve in Congress.
