Californians near Castaic Lake encouraged to evacuate after Hughes Fire erupts in LA County

Recently, wildfires broke out in Los Angeles County on Wednesday, prompting evacuation orders from California authorities.

The Hughes Fire, first reported Wednesday morning, broke out in the unincorporated community of Castaic in northwestern Los Angeles County. As of noon local time, the fire was 0% contained and had burned more than 3,400 acres.

Aerial photos showed smoke billowing near Castaic Lake, a reservoir in the Sierra Pelona Mountains.

The new fires come in the midst of a deadly wildfire season in the Golden State, and firefighters have been battling devastating Southern California wildfires for weeks.

The Pacific Palisades Fire, which started on January 7th, is still burning and has claimed at least 11 lives and more than 6,500 structures.

According to Cal Fire, residents in four areas near the Hughes Fire are being asked to leave immediately. This includes areas near Castaic Lake, Paradise Ranch, and Ridgeroot.

The warning reads: “Imminent threat to life. This is a lawful command to leave immediately.” “This area is legally prohibited from public access.”

Other nearby residents, including those living near Charlie Canyon and Sloan Canyon, have been warned to evacuate, but have not been ordered to do so. This includes local residents living near Green Hill Drive and Bitter Canyon.
