You may or may not have noticed, but the first tournament of Liv Golf for the 2025 season was scheduled to begin on Thursday in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
As you may have heard of it, on Wednesday, the USGA announced the top players in Liv Golf, offering a direct path to a male major championship. Those who became the first governing body of sports and otherwise not exempt will win a place at the US open field at Oakmont in June.
Additionally, the top 10 players in LIV Golf rankings as of April 7 will be exempt from local qualifying and will be directly transferred to the 36-hole section qualifying round.
While it may be an exaggeration to say this is an earthquake event, the move by the USGA certainly shows at least the thawing between mainstream PGA tour members and the Saudi-backed LIV tour. Many of the top players in the sport are millions of dollars.
