President Trump met with California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) on Wednesday to discuss fire recovery and border security efforts.
Golden State was recently praised by wildfires that destroyed a Los Angeles home and challenged local firefighters who fought the flames amid the problem of getting water. Wade Crowfoot, secretary of the California Department of Natural Resources, who oversees major water and fire policies throughout the state, accompanied Newsom at the meeting.
Newsom thanked Trump for meeting him as he was working to rebuild a community affected by the fire.
“As we are approaching a month from the devastating wildfires in Southern California, we will continue to cut deficits to speed up recovery, organize our efforts and ensure our rebuilding efforts are quick. We work across the aisles as always, as always, to ensure that the survivors have the resources and support they need.” statement.
“President Trump, I'm grateful to come to our community, see this in person, meet me today and continue our joint efforts to support those affected.”
Abbott, one of the president's biggest ally, met with Trump to discuss the idea of border security. The governor said he offered to support new measures from the US Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE).
“We have identified beds in about 4,000 prisons in Texas, which are in the process of incarcerating people arrested for illegally committing crimes here, either way, by the Trump administration. “We have identified about 4,000 prison beds that the Trump administration can use to own facilities to own it,” Abbott said on the appearance of CNN on Wednesday evening.”Leading with Jake Tupper. ”
“We provide that ability and let them know what we did. So Texas has built a boundary wall over 56 miles,” he added.
Abbott said the state is working on an additional 18 miles of border wall and has acquired an additional 100 miles of land for the construction of the border wall.
