A House Democrat group said the executive order signed by President Trump, which targets transgender communities that only recognize two genders, is unconstitutional.
Lawmakers have criticized the orders Trump signed on his first day in office, directing federal agencies to halt the concept of gender transition.
“Transgender people are entitled to the same legal protection as all other Americans. An executive order cannot override constitutional, federal law, or Supreme Court precedents. I wrote it in a letter.
“Amazingly, this and other executive order targeting the transgender community includes language that indicates anise to that community,” Democrats added.
The letter was addressed to the Human Resources Administration (OPM) and urged the office to suspend “implementation of Executive Order 14168.”
Takano, Ruskin and Connolly also pushed. Cancel a “The memorandum issued on January 29, 2025 provides guidance to agencies and departments on how to implement the dict order of the executive order.”
A memo sent to the department head last week by OPM directs them to investigate and close programs, grants, contracts and outward media, “promoting or instilling gender ideology.”
“We urge you to withdraw unconstitutional and unlawful memos and instead support your oath to support and defend the US constitution and law,” the Democrat group said.
During the presidential election, Trump argued his opponent, former Vice President Kamala Harris, was extreme to comprehensive policy.
Since taking office, he has issued a series of orders targeting transgender issues, including moves to prevent transgender people from participating in women's sports. He also signed an executive order that effectively prevents trans people from serving the military openly.
Oka reached out to the OPM and the White House for comments.
